Where does your dog sleep?
Bed, outside, floor, crate, laundry, couch or under the desk?
You don’t need to worry that your dog sleeping on your bed is going to create a ‘dominant’ monster but if you’d like to avoid or address leadership problems it’s advisable for the humans to have the most ‘comfy’ den position. It’s easier to give liberties than take them away so remember that if you don’t want your full grown Great Dane sleeping on your bed as an adult you’re best to teach him to sleep elsewhere as a puppy. If you must have your dog sleep on your bed teach him/her to get on by your invitation and don’t reward any pushy behaviour or you might find yourself getting less sleep.
I love my dog to sleep on her dog bed which is provided as a nice place for her to be. She doesn’t get pestered there. She gets an occasional treats there. She willingly goes there to sleep or just chill out. We don’t ‘startle’ each other accidentally in the night and I can’t be overwhelmed by gas. Some dogs feel more security sleeping in a crate or under a desk giving it a den-like feel.
