Top Dog
When living with more than one dog, as well as personalities there is dog status or hierarchy to consider. Rivalry and jealousy is more common amongst dogs of a similar size and nature. If this is the case in your household here are some things to think about. In the world of dogs there is not much reasoning so if you are aware of which of your dogs is dominant, greet that one first. Some folks consider this unfair, however recognizing dominance can save dogs an ongoing struggle in hierarchy. If feeding time is an issue you can feed dogs separately or out of sight of one another. Once again, ideally the dominant dog is fed before the others. And remember… no matter how many bones a dog has, it may still want the bone the ‘other’ dog has. The aim is to lessen the occasions for the dominant dog to assert its authority in the pack (whether it’s two dogs or more).
