Stray Dog Action Plan
Who hasn’t found themselves at one time or another trying to coax a stray dog. Some friends of mine even found themselves in someone’s front yard coaxing two stray dogs out from under a car. (No, this is not where the dogs lived). They didn’t think the ‘chase’ would lead them that far. The most embarrassing part was the wife was still in her pajamas and didn’t imagine the early morning car ride to drop off her husband would involve this!
Keep the local council telephone number in your mobile. They usually send out an animal control vehicle.
If you choose to assist the dog yourself and he has an I.D. tag you may contact the owners. You might even drop the dog off at a council shelter as this is usually the first place owners will check. If you are insistent about not leaving the dog with the council, they may agree to file a ‘found’ report for you. Take a quick pic with your phone to forward to them.
Attempt to keep him under control and away from especially little family members. He’s yet to be given a clean bill of health and more importantly as you don’t know his history, some of his ‘attributes’ may be powerful. The gorgeous doggy pictured here is not a stray, or escaped dog.
