New Protection for Qld Police Dogs

Queensland’s furry four-legged police officers now get to benefit from a greater level of protection wearing a special ‘multi purpose’ vest. Our Qld police dogs apprehend approximately 1000 offenders annually and their safety is paramount. Offenders being pursued sometimes attempt to injure the dogs.

This type of harness (developed in New Zealand) has been born out of the desire to protect our canine officers but also for their wellbeing in extreme heat conditions.

The non moisture-absorbing fabric also acts as a stab resistant body amour. Within the make up are panels placed to protect a dogs vital organs. It also has provision to contain cooling packs to aid the potential of heat stress.

When designing the product it was important to keep the weight of the vest down so as to not impair the speed and agility of the animal whilst at work. 75 of the 1kg harness have been issued and can be worn all year round.
