Rolled in a squirrel lately?
Ever washed your dog only to see him head straight for the smelliest thing he can find. One theory is that (reveling and rolling in that dead carcus, poo or garbage-like ‘thing’ on the ground) masks an animals scent allowing your dog to get closer to prey. Another is that the scent can relay to other dogs about the adventure you’ve taken – where you’ve been etc. In some cases dogs rub and roll to leave their scent on something the way a cat does.
Other than the odours being offensive to us, your dog should not be harmed by his version of ‘found on the ground’ doggy cologne. Help is available for any obsessive behaviours.
