Doggy release
Whether you’ve just been for a long hearty walk with your dog or you’re about to unclip the leash inside the dog park most dogs will take this as a cue to zoom away.
This is a perfect time to do one more thing between ‘on the leash’ and ‘off the leash’. Have a treat ready and try a positive reward for when the leash is unclipped. The concept is to create a moment when your dog at least looks to you or seeks permission to ‘go’.
This is one of those pivotal moments and with a reward to start out with you can build the habit. Picture being somewhere busy or near a road and suddenly your dog is accidentally off leash. Best for him to hang about rather than shoot off like a greyhound out of the racing gate.
