Dog and Cat buddies

The optimal age to introduce dogs and cats is when the dog is less than 12 weeks of age and the cat is less than 7 weeks of age.  Set them up for success – meetings should be supervised to ensure no chasing occurs at first and that being around each other is a positive experience.  They will need to sniff each other. Once some harmony is established, games and chasing will occur as a friendship forms.  Successful dog/cat relationships are possible with patience and I’ve seen this numerous times.  However remember that just as some people can never seem to get along, so too is the case with some animals and it is dependent on a number of factors.  Consult a professional trainer if you would like some ideas on how to help your dog and cat forge a friendship.
