A special dog named Bear
When Daniel was just 16 years old his life took a radical turn. It only took a few months for his vision to diminish to the point where he was blind. Daniel wondered what lay ahead for him as he began to rethink his future. How could he find normality again.
When a beautiful chocolate Labrador named ‘Bear’ came into Daniel’s life things turned around immediately. No longer did he feel like he had to go through everything alone. It was love at first nudge.
Daniel travelled with Bear to complete Bears training with busy traffic and bustling crowds. Daniel decided that physiotherapy was for him and embarked on his studies with Bear by his side every step of the way including lectures. He began to play sport again and even represented Australia playing blind cricket.
A young person may need up to 5 guide dogs throughout the course of their life. Guide Dogs rely on public funding to get by as only a small percentage of their costs are provided by the government.
It takes around $50K to train a guide dog. Guide Dogs Australia represent guide dog organisations in our six states. You can check them out at http://www.guidedogsaustralia.com
The image is not of ‘Bear’ but another gorgeous choccy lab. (There are so many).
