We’d love you to meet the Goldendoodle !!
That’s right, you’ve heard of Gold Finger and Golden Eye. But step aside James Bond, we’re about to aim this spotlight on the ‘Goldendoodle’. This gorgeous cross-breed combines the Golden Retriever and the Miniature or Standard Poodle. The size of this pooch varies according to the type of Poodle it was crossed with. This clever dog breed has even been trained as service dogs. They are acknowledged for ‘getting along’ well with people, other dogs, other pets and are not suited to guarding. They may alert their owners to a new comer but should not be given guarding as a task.
Though physically robust, they are more noted for a lovable temperament. A house with a large, fenced yard is best and apartment living is not recommended. The wavy coat grows to around 5 or 7cm and only requires moderate grooming. It has a kind of ‘shaggy’ look which can be fluffy, curly or wiry. Shedding is barely noticeable in the woolly coat, which means this pooch can be a great companion for someone with allergies. Attention needs to be given to his ears, teeth and his eyes. This lovely dog grows to between 7 and 30Kg (depending on poodle origins) and has a life span of 10 to 15 years. As with all breeds, early socialization is essential and failure to do so can result in shyness for this hybrid.
Folks, this is where friendliness meets intelligence and we think they’re so lovely we’re might even coin the term Golden Delicious. This dog makes a desirable family pet, and has rapidly gained popularity in the last ten years. This guy or girl is sometimes known as other names such as a Goldenoodle or Goldenpoo (yikes) and wait for it… they also come in black !!
