Dogs instead of meds for returned troops.

These are only a few of many symptoms experienced by returned soldiers suffering post traumatic stress disorder.
‘Paws for Purple Hearts’ is a U.S. program which matches veterans to canines in order to help ease the mental unease which so often is left with these brave men and women.
How can it help? Providing a secure feeling to help patient sleep whilst dog present. Animals help draw out isolated personalities. Teaching and caring for the dog enhances patient’s communication.
Having to praise the animal helps overcome feeling numb emotionally. The hormone oxytocin our brains secrete whilst interacting with our dogs assists in improving trust and easing paranoia.
