When can I start walking my Puppy?
This is a very common question. Generally, you should only bring your puppy out for a walk at least 2 weeks after it’s been to your Vet and had its last puppy vaccination. The reason for this is because unfortunately there are many viruses out there that your puppy could potentially pick up while you’re out and about or on your walk in public areas.
It’s important to remember that all kinds of dogs are walked in these public areas, both vaccinated and unvaccinated. The unvaccinated dogs may shed some viruses that can stay in the environment for many years, and these viruses, if in contact with your puppy before he or she receives all of his vaccinations, may make your pup very ill. Every year, lot of pups do die from these nasty diseases. There is no cure in many cases, available for these viruses, as is the case too in childhood viruses in children.
But, it is really so important to start socialising your puppy at an early age, but it should only be done in safe environments – such as puppy preschools at vet clinics, friends and relatives’ homes with healthy vaccinated dogs. A common sense approach is needed.
