What’s in a hug?
Awwww, doesn’t it feel nice? Do you hug your dog? Dog hugging is not something we recommend, because your Dog really enjoys pats from you, rather than hugs. But if you insist, please remember that in doggy world a hug is a way to assert social status (dominance). That’s why many dogs struggle to get away once they feel the pressure of an all encompassing embrace. If they do struggle away-ward, that’s Fido letting you know… Hey, I don’t want to fight you.
Hugging requires getting right into the dogs personal space.
Sure, dogs love our attention, and you may insist that your dog loves being hugged. I am not going to tell you that he doesn’t. After all, he’s ‘your’ dog. But as mentioned, chances are he enjoys pats better than hugs. Before you think I sound kind of heartless, remember I am a dog lover but we recommend saving the hugs for humans.
