What are ‘Frito feet?’

‘Frito feet’ is an expression relaying fact that sometimes a dogs paws smell like corn chips or popcorn.  (Fritos being a type of corn chip from Frito-Lay).  This scent on a dog is actually present due to bacteria as the paws have so much contact with the ground.  Combined with sweating which partly occurs through a dogs feet, this popcorny, nutty aroma represents of a type of doggy B.O.  So if you have a dog with a long coat, at bathtimes you may need to pay some attention to the toes and pads where dirt can be trapped.

Some individuals find pleasure in inhaling the scent of their dog and although I confess to being a fan of cornchips, it is a velvety doggy ear that I find most irresistible.  When greeting my dog I often catch myself drawing in a big breath.  However a dogs ear with an unpleasant odour may indicate infection so be sure to take a routine look inside.   ‘Lady’ pictured here always looks and smells her best.
