To dog daycare or not to daycare
When considering sending your dog to daycare you will need to talk in detail to the operators about your dogs’ personality and his socialization history to date.
Determining if your dog is suitable should be arranged via discussion and a trial to observe how your dog responds around others.
Operators may request your presence or non-presence when observing your dog interacting with other dogs. Sometimes dogs behave more naturally and socially when their owner is not present, particularly if there are any human-guarding issues.
Sending a dog into a group of dogs to see how he goes is considered less than ideal.
Not all dogs are suited to daycare, sometimes due to personality, demeanor or lack of previous socialization.
You will need to know how and whether your dog will be protected from any dog-bullying if it were to occur. Operators have no reason to make a dog out to be an ogre, so if operators report your dog to be dealing out rough behaviour please respond proactively.
Most importantly do the staff at daycare, care?
Do they care enough to report in to you what is going on and whether there are any concerns? And are they approachable when you have questions for them?
