Rat bait Dog bait
If you are considering using a rodent bait around dogs please think twice. Rodenticides can be fatal to dogs and even hidden baits have been responsible for many a pets demise.
The poison is usually available as a single or multi-feed type. With a multi-feed poison, dogs and wildlife are less likely to become affected if they eat a e.g. mouse because it is designed to be consumed over a period of time. However it can still kill and signs of toxicity in your pet may not be evident for a few days.
Live traps are best to use. These are the kind where the vermin can find his way in but not out. If you use snap-style-traps please set them up where no innocent noses or paws could accidentally set one off and be injured.
Rodent baits are also responsible for fatalities of birds of prey. Owls, eagles and other large birds have fallen victim to the poison that has effected their prey.
If you suspect your pet may have ingested vermin bait please seek veterinary advice immediately.
