Ye Olde Dog
Ever called your dog and it looks around Iike ‘where’s that coming from’? Or maybe it has even taken off in the other direction? Does your dog take a loooooong time to find his way back? In older age your dog may not be as sharp as he once was. He may even have a touch of senility or dementia?
Providing safe boundaries like good fencing so you’re dog can’t wander away from your property is a positive step. Also, to help prevent wandering at night a contained area or crate can keep fido where you left him. Loss of night vision is common in older dogs. Perhaps you could leave a nightlight on if necessary.
Just as we need to give our fellow humans extra care and understanding at this time of life, so we do with our dogs. The twilight years can leave them disoriented or even jumping with fright when we touch them. Speaking to your dog whilst approaching from the front or side is less likely to surprise them. Barney pictured here says he doesn’t think about getting old much.
