It’s a Dog’s Life
My friend Paul had a wonderful black & white collie named ‘Rastas’. This fantastic dog whom I had the pleasure of meeting, enticed his master out one night from their holiday home and led him to a lady trapped in a car nearby. Rastas heard or detected something was wrong. He just wouldn’t let up with the barking so Paul decided to follow him. The driver had crashed off the side of the road. The lady they rescued forgot to say thank you but Paul knew how lucky she was.
Rastas stayed over to ‘mind me’ for a couple of weeks when his owner went away. Each day while I was at work some tradesmen came to the house to do renovations. After the first week I saw one of them leaving as I returned home. “That’s a great dog you’ve got there” he said. I thanked him and explained he was only borrowed. The guy overseeing the job only lived a few blocks away so went home every day for lunch. He told me how on the first day they got into the truck to go for their break and Rastas jumped in with them. So they took him with them for the hour where he played with the chooks until it was time to go back to work and that continued every day until the job was finished.
Had I not run into the builder I may have been none the wiser.
