Homeless Dogs Abound
Animals can be abandoned for a number of reasons and it is an international phenomenon. In Australia it is illegal to abandon animal species which have been kept for domestic purposes and some degree of confinement. If for some reason you cannot keep your dog please seek help in how to humanely manage the next chapter of his life.
Sadly apart from the obvious outcome of dogs going hungry, thirsty and exposure to the elements – another result of abandoned animals is unwanted litters.
We cannot stress the importance of obtaining a dog from a shelter or a licenced breeder and not a puppy mill. We don’t support dogs being sold in pet stores or from the roadside. I’ve regularly see cars parked in a prominent space in our area with a large sign for passing traffic to see… ‘ XXXX pups for sale ‘. I urge you not to support this type of activity.
Logan City Council’s shelter in Queens Rd, Kingston even has holding enclosures where ‘found’ dogs can be placed out of hours. Please do not leave dogs anywhere anonymously.
The attached video is to encourage dog owners or potential owners to examine the time, environment and resources they have in fulfilling their dogs needs.
