Getting your dog a buddy
A buddy can help exercise fido through doggy play and keep each other company when you are absent. Sooo valuable. What could be more wonderful?
But please, before getting a second dog be honest with yourself about the reasons you would like another dog. Remember that just like when you have children, 2 can mean triple the work. And if you are not prepared to dedicate lots of time to both dogs you may find them forming their own pack of 2, separate to you.
At Houndog we recognize that dogs are pack animals who thrive with company. Doggy daycare is a wonderful way to keep your dogs social skills well rounded as he will be mixing with a variety of pals. Folks who cannot send their dog to daycare might consider finding a suitable play-date buddy.
Though there are exceptions to every rule, many harmonious doggy relationships tend to be 1 male and 1 female. Next comes 2 neutered males, followed by 2 females. Unless you are a registered breeder we recommend neutering and spaying your dogs at the appropriate age.
The topic of multi-dog households is bigger than a blog, more like a book. Seek a professional’s advice on safe introductions and how to integrate a new dog into your home/pack.
