Driving Miss Doggy
Not only should dogs be properly secured whilst riding in your car to prevent them from becoming missiles but legally they are required ‘not’ to be in the drivers area. Dogs, cats and children may also ‘not’ ride on the drivers lap. Fines apply as it is considered that an animal on the drivers lap interferes with the drivers control of the vehicle.
A dog hanging his head out of the window may also attract a ticket. Dogs travelling on the back of a vehicle ie ute or in a trailer would be considered part of the load and therefore need to be secured safely with a tether or carried in a cage or crate which is secured.
Also forbidden are dogs riding between the handlebars of motorbikes. Please remember that these rules have been designed with the safety of both animals and people in mind.
