Dogs and Twilight Years
As your dog reaches his twilight years do your homework on diet. He might be a little slower at some things and mightn’t need quite the same type of exercise but his food intake and types of foods should be tweaked. Some older dogs have problems digesting certain foods.
Please ensure your veteran pooch is kept warm. He will naturally carry less muscle and body fat with age so a coat may be required at nights and early mornings, especially in the colder months.
He may not wish to play as he did before and may display less tolerance. Also, if your pooch’s hearing and sight is affected he may miss important signals being given by other dogs. If he has cataracts it is likely his eyes will appear cloudy. With hearing it is often the lower tones diminishing first. Try speaking in a different tone or a high pitched voice.
