Dogs and Kids
Are you considering bringing a dog into your home?
10 important questions to ask if you have kids.
1/ Have you researched breeds most suited to families?
2/ Does your child have any allergies? Some breeds have coats which shed less.
3/ What are the ages of your children and will they be responsible for any of the care the dog requires?
4/ What is your child’s/children’s current level of comfort around dogs?
5/ Is the dog’s energy level suited to your family and lifestyle? We recommend de-sexing.
6/ Can you teach your child how to read a dog’s body language?
7/ Where is your pooch going to sleep?
8/ Will the dog have somewhere to retreat to?
E.g. a special mat, crate or place where he/she will be left in peace.
This way when your dog has had enough they can take time out.
9/ Do you have any other existing pets at home to consider?
10/ Have you all agreed on rules as to what (and what not) your dog will be allowed to do.
Supervising dogs around children is an adult’s responsibility.
