Doggy Road Trip
If your dog is in good enough health to join you on a road trip arrange with the driver to have stops at least every 4 hours. If you are sharing the driving I’m sure each passenger would like to stretch their legs. Some pooches may need up to half an hour to ‘do their business’ when its an ‘out of the ordinary’ environment. Also, the bowel will kick into action from the dogs body movement so give him time. Be sure to factor in some exercise for him.
Make a list prior so you have everything he will need whilst on the road and away. In case of car sickness it is best to make the dogs meal a few hours before commencing travel and being tired from a walk will make the trip more bearable. Take the corners slowly please as rover has no idea where you are steering next. Also accelerating and braking slowly will help.
Please make sure your pet will be welcome at your destination before arranging where to stay. Have your dogs medical records available and find a couple of vet contacts including a 24hr service in case of medical emergency.
