Doggy do it now

Fernando Comacho is one of our favourite dog trainers and we often find ourselves discussing his takes on dog behaviour.  One of the most important messages he drives home is that if you recognize a problem with your dog’s (behaviour) the time to address it is now.

Waiting until a dog is years old or years older than ‘right now’ in no way makes the problem easier to fix.  He explains that not only will time not fix the problem but that it will worsen due to allowing further opportunities to practice the unwanted behaviour.

So instead of scolding yourself for the fact your dog has a problem, address it.  Research possible action plans or seek a professional who can help coach you through it.  Some behaviours can be fixed quickly but others, if given years of repetition may potentially only be managed and not solved.

Don’t wait and allow the ‘thing’ to go away.  It won’t.  One week or one year from now you will be soooo glad you did.
