Dog with webbed feet
We’ve all heard of the ‘Selfie’. So what is a ‘Newfie’? It’s a Newfoundland of course. A wonderful large breed dog who has worked beside man for a long time now. Talk about adaptions… one of the traits which makes the Newfie special is his webbed feet. That’s right, this wonderful teddy-bear like dog just loves the water and the webbing between his toes is quite evident when the toes are spread. They were originally used to haul nets for fisherman and they are wonderful at water rescues because of their sheer muscular strength and lung capacity. A thick and oily coat is also a bonus when venturing into the water so they can stay in for longer than other breeds. These friendly and loyal dogs, like many of the large breeds usually live to around 8-10 years. They really prefer colder climates some folks have referred to them as the Saint Bernard of water.
