Dog Training Dilemma
Ok, we know dog training is not a one-size-fits-all product and trainers don’t all fall into a single definitive category. And if a trainer says they are not ‘positive reinforcement only’ this does not mean their methods must be at the opposite end of the spectrum. There are more than 2 camps when it comes to Training methods.
Keep your feelers out and your ears open. Then if you take only one thing away from a session, a lecture, book or video that works for you, it’ll be worth it.
When choosing a trainer or method, ask around, read testimonials and forums when working out which angle you want to take with your dog. A good Dog Trainer will be happy to engage in a conversation about their style. The main mindset to retain is that training for your dog should be lifelong. File away as many morsels of information as you can and keep learning. When you find someone you can really connect with, try them out.
Training is the most wonderful thing to undertake with your dog and I cannot express in words how valuable it will be for you and your dog’s relationship. I love to listen to several great podcasts on Dog Training Tips, which include “FERNDOG” & “Sue Sternberg”.
