Choosing a dog harness for your vehicle.
There are a bunch of designs to choose from when considering a style of doggy harness.
Make sure you know your dog’s measurements before selecting a harness and consider his body type and weight. Some shops will allow him into the store. It should comfortable but snug enough that he can’t slip out of it like Houdini.
A correctly fitted harness will keep your dog in place where you strapped him in and could even spare damage to your car upholstery. A swivel style attachment can help prevent him getting tangled up and keep leads short, even if it hinders his ‘view’ as this can be can be the difference between life and death. Do this even for the shortest trips and it will soon become habit.
If your dog usually travels in the back of a ute, the rules are the same.
He needs to be secured and don’t forget to tie down a load which could potentially slide into him.
Cages are usually recommended for dogs travelling in open vehicles.
Approximately 5000 dogs are injured or killed in Australia every year due to falling from a moving vehicle.
