Could these Canine Observations be valuable to You?
We would like to share a most valuable resource with you. If you would like to sharpen your skills in reading dog body language and the like, read on… A Facebook page called ‘Observation Skills for Training Dogs’ is a practical way to see regularly uploaded real time video footage of dogs and their conversations. We believe dog owners and dog trainers alike will really benefit from the volume of content available. Even those folks not involved with dogs can refine their skills. Most videos show dogs interacting with other dogs in a variety of settings. The content is quite varied but the beauty of the page is to read the perspective of how others interpret a video. Whilst you are also able to comment, the page is carefully monitored to ensure it is being used as an observation platform and not a launch pad for criticism of others. It’s not about how many comments you want to agree or disagree with, but more a way to expand your current level of knowledge by hearing what others observe. You can also test your current level of observation skills by attempting to read as much as you can from a video prior to reading the remarks. Then afterwards you can see how many others have noticed what you have, or find out if others saw something you missed.
We really enjoy the dog/dog interaction videos but you will also see clips of humans interacting with dogs. Sometimes the dog is clearly giving signals (which may be ignored) in order to ask for space.
If you find a particular video cringe-worthy, see if you can be disciplined enough to comment without passing judgment. Your assessment may assist other readers to expand their awareness.
The page is a closed group so you need to send a request in order to join and follow. When posting, their administration team will review the content before it can appear public. Guidelines are provided relating to commenting and use of language etc. If you join this page, be sure to read the ‘Description’ section on the home page so you understand the true purpose and rules of using this ever-growing reference tool.
