3 Places to see Animals for Free in Brisbane
Daisy Hill Koala Centre is a wonderful place for families. The Centre gives you a chance to view koalas up close from a choice of viewing levels. The big plus, is the educational value you will find here including interactive displays. A few hundred hectares of eucalypt forest provides a peaceful setting and is ideal for a picnic with tables and amenities provided. The boardwalk and ramps make for a friendly way for everyone to access the centre and if you have an overseas guest, our guess is that they will take away many fine memories from a visit to this beautiful venue.
The North Gorge Walk on North Stradbroke Island is a must for us every time we visit the island and it only takes around 45 mins to complete. This includes time to stop and take in the breathtaking panorama from some of the numerous viewing platforms. As you stroll you can see wallabies and kangaroos grazing beside the path. They are used to seeing human folk but please allow them to go about their daily business without disturbance. Of course there are more than just marsupials to see here. The Gorge is a coastal walk where we have viewed dolphins, whales, turtle and rays many times. The walking track (basically a loop) is well maintained and much of it (especially the steep) areas are boardwalked. Although the entire track does not cater for wheelchairs, there are still some fabulous views from the point that can be accessed. The Island passenger and vehicle ferries involve a cost however there are many free activities once you are on the Island.
If you are in the Redlands, you could always stop by and say hello to the crew at Ted’s Corner in Capalaba. This section of a frontier style village amidst Capalaba Produce is a very easy way to show younger children a variety of farmyard animals. Most are in pens but there are a few species of birds, which are free to roam. Food & snacks are sold nearby.
