Rusty is a three-year-old Australian Terrier and such a friendly fella that he has hitched a ride with kind folks in the past. Once he even happily hopped into a car in Chinchilla only to end up 230km’s from home. His owner said he was great at befriending people.

In a remote area of NSW, truck driver Paul McDowell was ready to start the next leg of his long journey. After checking his tyres, he found a little dog in the truck. The area was far from a town, so he searched for a couple of hours in hope of finding some campers missing a dog. With no success Paul decided he had no choice but to take the little dog with him because without water and alone, the pooch might come to grief.

Four days later the pair arrived safely in Snowtown, South Australia and went about trying to locate Rusty’s owners. As it turned out, he had been staying with relatives on a cattle property near Goondiwindi whilst his family were on holidays.

Once his owner Ms Scudamore knew of Rusty’s location it was just a matter of finding a way to bring him back. After the story got out on Facebook, there was no shortage of offers to help.
