Pit Bull act of Bravery
A gentleman from Boston (David) had his heart won over by a Pit Bull (Lilly). Lilly was needing a home and David took her in with the idea in mind her sweet nature could make a good companion for his Mum (Christine) who at the time was a having a battle with alcoholism. Lilly became a very big part of Christine’s life. In May 2012 Lilly committed an act of heroism when Christine was passed out on train tracks. The engineer saw the dog pushing and pulling her body to get her out of the way of the train but frightfully he heard a thump as the train came to a halt. Lilly had managed to pull Christine clear of the danger but she sustained many injuries to her own body including needing her front right leg amputated.
With the cost of medical treatments skyrocketing into the $1000’s they both wondered whether Lilly could walk again or lead a normal life. But she’d come this far and no-one wanted to give up on her now. With encouragement, David agreed to share her story with the media and donations began flooding in. Approx $76,000 U.S. was given by generous folks from all over the world. It was more than enough for Lilly’s remaining treatment and the rest was used for surgery on other dogs where their owners could not afford treatment.
Lilly’s first unassisted steps were toward a lady at the park who recognized her from the story and called her name. David and Christine were overjoyed. Christine is doing well and dedicated to Lilly’s care. Lilly has learned to use her 3 legs in everyday life and gets to spend time with David aswell.
The lovely doggy photographed here is not from the story but is a loyal companion too.
