Reclaiming your lost dog
If your dog is lost reporting your dog to your local council is only one step in attempting to recover your buddy. It’s up to you find and check any databases available.
Check the protocol re your council’s shelter. Some councils will not take and record data for lost animals but you have to physically go in each day and take a look at who’s been found. And if you do lose your dog you are best to check with several council areas as animals can travel distances or be picked up and moved by someone else.
There are numerous on-line sites to declare your dog missing. Many offer few discriminators (eg breed, gender, colour) when searching, with the least choices being a site with only a lost or found tab and providing no way to check quickly, only hundreds of profiles to scroll through. Some folks are not overly particular when entering descriptions either. On one internet site, a dog was described as white with black markings with no reference to the breed when it was clearly a Dalmatian.
The RSPCA do offer a specialized daily search service – approx. $50 for 30 days. And finally, please register your microchip number and remember to update your contact details should you move or get a new phone number.
