Dogs in Public Places
It’s a common picture to see dogs dining out with their owners at sidewalk cafes in many European countries and America too.
Not so here is Australia unfortunately, although there has been a push for dog friendly restaurants. Contact your local council if you wish to brush up on the rules. Even though we are right behind ‘enjoying your dog’, not everyone in the public is. On a trip to Noosa earlier this year we were amazed to see a large staffy under the table at an alfresco dining establishment. More surprising was that the dog was in the indoors section. The waiter had not noticed yet. As a young family made their way to be seated next to that table the mother gasped with fright as the strange dog shook itself right next to her leg and shooed her family to another table.
Lets be mindful that some folks in the community are just not doggy people or just like to play it safe with kids around. A small number again have an ingrained fear of dogs. We need to respect that and strive to make communal places comfortable our fellow citizens both for us and our furry friends.
