Police Dogs

 

Breeds often found training for this job in Australia are German Shepherds, Belgian Shepherds, Labradors and Springer Spaniels.  Police dogs usually fall under two categories – general purpose and detection dogs.

 Examples of operations requiring the dogs could be detecting drugs, explosives or firearms, assisting with crowd control, finding a missing person or maybe even a cadaver.

 The dogs are worked and rewarded according their unique skills and likes.  For completing a task one dog may receive a food treat, another a favourite toy.

 Dogs go home with their owners at the end of the day.
