Thinking ‘Big’
Big dogs, small dogs, they all have their redeeming features. Our friend Jenny rehomed a great dane nearly one year ago and her patience has been exemplary. Charlie came to them as an underweight 5 month old. And when someone announces to you that they just rehomed a dog, and that ‘he’s still just a puppy really’, you don’t expect his face to come up to your belly button.
If Charlie is not playing in the yard, working on his chew toy or rearranging the cushions on his (full size human) single bed, he spends a little time as a lap dog. By that I mean his head resting on Jenny’s lap while he’s still standing. When Charlie alerts you to passers by, his profile is seen over the top of the fence by pedestrians.
Luckily his owners don’t have limited space but if this gorgeous dane is encouraged to leap from the top tear of the garden bed he would probably sustain an injury faster than a more nimble counterpart so he still needs to be kept lean enough to avoid joint and bone problems. And how much does he eat? Well… he’s a growing boy after all. Luckily for Charlie, he has found his ‘forever’ home. Names and photographs have been changed to protect the innocent.
