Hair of The Dog
Spare a thought for matted hair which if left, can become tangled right up to your dogs skin becoming (you guessed it) painful !! Shedding hair can make up a part of this. Moisture, bugs, burrs and even leaves can get trapped so regular grooming is the best prevention. As well and detangling, brushing helps remove shed hair which hasn’t yet dropped out of the coat.
When brushing it’s important for the longer-hair breeds to get through the coat far enough. The brush may move easily over the top coat leaving matted sections undetected. Make sure you have a good feel of the coat with your hands. If it’s already gotten out of hand the clippers may be needed depending on how close or tight the matting.
Some breeds benefit from a short trim or shaving. Speak to your vet and local groomer about this. And if your lovely pooch has hair hanging in his line of vision ‘pleeease,’ a little trim would be kind. (Pictured above – Spike looking glam’ and well groomed.)
