Hearing Dogs

 

 

 

 

Every couple of weeks a hearing impaired person has the life changing experience of receiving a Lions Hearing Dog.  Hearing dogs go everywhere with their owners and come in many shapes, sizes and breeds.  They can alert their owners to a number of things such as a doorbell, boiling kettle, crying baby or an alarm.  Hearing dogs also provide their owners with companionship and security.  98 percent of hearing dogs are sourced from shelters throughout Australia.  Training the dog can take between 6 to 8 months and costs approx. $30,000

So let’s spare a thought for those who cannot hear all those sounds the rest of us possibly take for granted.  Thankfully some are lucky enough to have a hearing dog by their side.  Lions do so much work in our community and welcome volunteers and donations.  You might even want to visit them on-line with name suggestions for their continual flow of new dogs.
