Regardless of environment or background all dogs require exercise, care and enrichment.  Admittedly they are all individuals and may need varying amounts of each.  Some of us may be able to provide extravagance, however no matter which side of town your dog is born on one of the most important things you can provide, especially for puppies are new experiences.  It doesn’t cost much, it’s just a matter of making the experiences positive in order to develop a confident dog.  Aim for your puppy to be exposed to a multitude of people of varying age and size.  But the experience must be pleasant (no hurting or scaring).  There are critical periods when your puppy is growing that ‘frights’ should be avoided.  Around these periods the more your dog can be exposed to the better so if you want a dog that doesn’t react every time it sees and umbrella or hears a lawn mower find out how you can introduce ‘new experiences’.  Puppy school can provide lots of socializing and ways you can bond with your dog. Puppies are like magnets so if you get your pup out and about you’ll be amazed how easily that multitude of people will appear.  Other ‘new experiences’ can just be around your home…car, vacuum, storms and so on.
