Dog Legends
There have been many famous dogs who’ve made their way into story books and even movies… Lassie, Rin Tin Tin and Red Dog to name a few. Just about everyone has heard the legend of the Greyfriars Bobby, the dog who (it was said) spent 14 years guarding the grave of his master back in the 1800’s. More recently I read that Bobby was in fact more of a myth than a legend and that he was simply invented to attract tourists to his home town in Scotland where he’s even got his own statue. But truth or not, you do not have to look very far to find factual and remarkable acts performed by our canine friends. While you are reading this and even while we slumber there are fabulous dogs all over the world in duty mode. Guarding the establishment, rounding up the sheep, minding the goats, seeking and sniffing out the missing, alerting, guiding and directing for those of us who cannot see or hear. We’ve used them to pull carts and to assist and defend. Then there are the dogs simply keeping us company, warm or cheering us up. There’s plenty to be said for that.
