Keeping your Best Mate Warm this Winter
Winter has really hit Brisbane in the last few day’s dropping down to 7 degrees overnight, so it’s definitely time to consider your pet’s need’s during the big chill, as they will be feeling it too!
More care is needed during Winter to keep your pet comfortable and most importantly Healthy & happy. Your Dog will really be feeling the cold, so if possible, try and keep your Dog indoors, especially overnight. If you don’t normally allow them inside, perhaps the laundry or garage is a good idea. It’s important to keep them away from any cold drafts. If your dog has long hair, they will not feel the cold as much but extra care should still be taken to prevent any sickness. A Dog Coat or sweater will provide that much needed warmth against the elements. Keep your pet up off cold tiles on a warm bed and use plenty of warm blankets for them to snuggle in to. This is very important with older animals that suffer from arthritis, as the condition can often get worse in Winter making them stiffer and they may experience more discomfort during the cold snap. Sometimes your Dog can be less active during winter, so it’s important to keep up your regular exercise routine to keep them happy and their joints moving. It can also be tempting to overfeed your dog during these cold months, so please be mindful of this and be careful to ensure your dog maintains a healthy weight.
