Get by with a Little Help – for your Old Dog
Hi everyone, I just wanted to share a little heart warming story from this week. My old female Husky “Whitney” is now 13years old and the leg’s aren’t what they use to be. She can still manage a slow 15-20 minute walk each day, which is great to retain muscle tone. Over the week-end, we wanted to visit the Quarry but I knew she wouldn’t make the 20 minute uphill walk, so I got to thinking about what I could transport her in, so she didn’t miss out on the Experience. I visited the Logan Recycle Tip and found a sturdy children’s Pram for a bargain – just $15. It worked a treat! I attached her in by her harness and after a quick test run around my neighbourhood and the few odd stares and giggles, we were set to make our little journey through the Karawatha Forest to the Quarry. It was a great work out for me (pushing a 20kg dog up hill)but it was well worth it once we got there and Whitney really enjoyed the views along the way. Once at the Quarry, we stayed about an hour & Whitney enjoyed a little walk around and of course a quick swim. She had a snooze in her new pram on the way back. It feels great to know, that I can now take her anywhere in the 2nd hand Pram and she doesn’t have to miss out, if the walking component of the destination is a bit beyond her. Once Whitney got use to the Pram, she really enjoyed the whole Experience and still got a little bit exercise as well. Now there’s no destination we cannot visit!
